Export as "UTF-8" exports "UTF-8 BOM"

KorndoerferI created the topic: Export as "UTF-8" exports "UTF-8 BOM"

Observation:
- Export of Objects (in particular Modules) as UTF-8 results in a file that notepad++ recognizes as "UTF-8 BOM"
- Access chokes on the special characters ("BOM") at the beginning of the files.

Solution:
- Read all files per python scripts as "utf-8-sig" and write them back out again as "utf-8"

Feature request:
- Could we teach OASIS to write as "utf-8" rather then "utf-8 BOM"?

Another effect of this is that in UTF-8 BOM special characters seem to get garbled, i.e. in one of my modules:
Zubehör -> Zubehör
which does not seem to be a display issue only, since re-importing the garbled file then also shows Zubehör in VBA.

Which version of Access?
In 2016 the files exported with SaveAsText are saved as UTF-16 BOM.

Yes 2016. We are in the middle of a major overhaul of our DB with the need to restructure the underlying database. This requires a re-write of row- and recordsources as well as queries and views. A huge part of that is done programmatically on the exported objects.

We have meanwhile abandonned the "UTF-8" option, since we could not control what was happening.
While the re-import of UTF-8 BOM "form" objects seemed to work fine, Access choked on re-import of "UTF-8-BOM" modules, due to the "BOM" in the beginning of the files.

Since the export is an Access function (and not OASIS) I understand there is not much we can do from this side.

The option "Convert to UTF-8" is dedicated to users who have to deal with older versions Access in their team.
If you only use versions >= Access 2010 then you do not need this option.
